Vicky Giannakopoulou
founder
«BENU» is an extension of myself.
It is inspired by the symbolism of the brand name that means the power of the human being to be reborn from the life difficulties and become even stronger.
It is driven from my desire to contribute as much as I can to the empowerment of those people who were not so fortunate and, as a strong believer of sustainability, I aim at the establishment of an ethical brand that provokes the senses with respect for history, love for nature and support to the fellow man.
It’s amazing how generous and talented are the artisans I have collaborated in Africa are. Even under difficult conditions they manage to remain peaceful, to respect nature and to embrace their cultural heritage.
As their hands work, they sing their tales; their memoirs capture in every strand a personal story!
I will be honored to share with you this experience and grab the chance to bring to life your ideas that express your identity and reveal the personality of your customers.
Our name
Benu is named after the legendary Egyptian bird associated with the sun, creation and rebirth. Just like Phoenix from Greek mythology, when it starts feeling old and weak, it sets itself on fire. After a few days it is born strong and vigorous again arising from its ashes.
For us, Benu is a symbol of redefining and reinventing ourselves especially during uncertain times. It’s a symbol of hope, renewal and endless energy that makes us powerful every single day.
Fair Trade
We believe in Fair Trade and we build our collaborations on mutual respect, trust, transparency, equity and dialogue. We put people first and we aim to contribute to the sustainable development of local communities.
We want our artisans to get a fair pay and to preserve their cultural heritage with pride and joy.
